Why Does My Box Mod Say “No Atomizer Found”?

There are a few reasons why your box mod will be showing a “no atomizer found” message. Let’s look at the most common.

Vape coil dead – If your vape coil needs replacing your box mod can display the message “Atomizer not found”. This is because the coil isn’t working, so the mod cannot read it anymore.

Vape coil fitting – The vape coil has to be seated in your vape tank correctly. If it isn’t fitted into your tank properly then it will not make a connection to the mod, this can cause an error message.

510 connector – The 510 connection on your vape mod is a little base plate that sits at the bottom of the threads where you screw your vape tank in. This is what reads your coil when it connects to the base of the tank. If this has become depressed or is dirty it cannot make a complete connection.

Tank connector – On the base of your vape tank there is a circular metal plate. This makes the connection to the 510 on your mod. This has to be in the right place and free of debris to make a free connection to the mod.

Tank / mod combo – Are you using a coil that is compatible with your vape mod? Some older mods or starter kits won’t support sub-ohm vaping as an example. Is your tank and mod combo compatible?

How to Fix A Vape That Says “No Atomizer Found”

Now we know some of the reasons why your vape might be displaying the “No atomizer found” message, lets see if we can fix the problem.

Step 1 – Disconnect the tank

Take the tank off the mod, and if possible, try another tank that you know is working already on your mod. If this works then we know the problem is the vape tank or coil. If it doesn’t then we can say the problem probably lies in the mod.

Step 2 – Clean the 510 connection

Make sure the 510 connection on your mod is clean and free of debris. Also do a quick visual check and make sure it isn’t fully depressed down into the surrounding O-ring. If it is, turn the mod off and try to gently prise it up with a pin.

Step 3 – Check the tank connection

Have a look at the tank base plate mentioned earlier. Is it clean? Is it fully depressed into the surround O-ring? Make sure it is free of e-liquid and seated in the correct position.

Step 4 – Unscrew base

Unscrew the base of your tank (making sure your tank is as empty as possible so you don’t lose any e-liquid) and check that your vape coil is screwed in properly. Unscrew it and make sure there is nothing in the base of the tank, then screw the coil back in securely, ensuring there is no double threading.

Step 5 – Test

Once you have done the above, try your set up again. If it is still not working, then the problem probably lies in the coil.

Step 6 – Change your coil

Even if you have just installed a new coil, it doesn’t matter. Coils can be dead on arrival, they don’t last forever, no coil does (although it would be great). So, change it for a new one and this should see your problem solved.

How Do You Fix “Atomizer Short” and “Atomizer Low”?

An “atomizer short” or “atomizer low” message is usually easier to rectify. This points directly to the vape coil.

Step 1 – Disconnect the tank

Get the tank and mod apart to visually assess that all looks OK with your mod.

Step 2 – Clean the 510 connection

Make sure the 510 connection on your mod is clean and free of debris.

Step 3 – Check the tank connection

Clean the base plate of your tank and make sure there is no external damage.

Step 4 – Unscrew base

Unscrew the base of your tank and check that your vape coil is screwed in properly.

Step 5 – Change your coil

Even if you have just installed a new coil, it doesn’t matter. Coils can be dead on arrival. Change it for a new one and this should see your problem solved.

Step 6 – Check your tank and mod combo

As explained earlier, is your mod compatible with the coil you have installed? Check whether the two can work together.

As above, you should now have a working vape just from changing the coil. But these steps do not take into account any external damage your e-cig may have taken.

Read our Guide to Batteries to get a better understanding of your mod and use our Battery Safety Guide for E-cigarettes to ensure you are using it safely.

You should now have a working vape again. But remember; the above advice is given under the assumption that there have been no other external factors to contribute to this error message. If your mod or vape tank has been; dropped, taken a knock, has been consistently flooded with e-liquid due to leaking, has had water damage etc, then the likelihood is the above will not fix it.
