Is your disposable misbehaving? Let's look at why.
Disposables are super simple to use and are extremely popular among new vapers as the first stepping stone into vaping. But what happens if they start to misbehave? Well, here’s a handy disposable vapes troubleshooting and FAQ to help.
What are disposables?
Disposables are single use devices that are ready to use right out of the box. They don’t require charging and are pre-filled with 2ml of e-liquid. They are often high in nicotine strength. Despite this, they are incredibly smooth to vape thanks to the nic salt formula, which removes the throat hit from the nicotine. Also, they have a lot of flavouring which means they taste strong.
These kits are an easy to use starting point for new vapers who are transitioning from smoking. Also, they’re a great option for existing users to take out and about with them, so that their main kit isn’t lost or damaged.

Disposable Vape FAQs
How much nicotine is in a disposable vape?
Most disposables are 2% or 1%, which is roughly the equivalent of a packet of cigarettes. Some brands such as the VLTZ bar are available in 0%, so are nicotine free. Illegal devices that are irresponsibly available on the black market can be as high as 5%, but these devices breach UK TRPR law.
How long should disposable vapes last?
Disposables are often advertised as lasting for around 600 puffs. Basically, they contain 2ml of liquid and a battery that is between 350mAh and 600mAh. How long one lasts depends on the user. If you vape a little then a single kit can last for days, whereas if you’re a heavy smoker or vaper then you might get less than a day. As an average, most users get a day out of each device.
Are disposable vapes safe?
We never claim that vaping is 100% safe, as liquids contain nicotine which is a stimulant. Also, very rarely, some people have experienced allergic reactions to vaping. What we do know for certain is that vaping is safer than combustable tobacco.
Are disposable vapes worse than cigarettes?
No. Vaping, as stated by Public Health England, is 95% safer than smoking. As tobacco burns, it produces thousands of chemicals that can damage the lungs and cause cancers. E-liquid and devices don’t contain these. In fact, e-liquid only contains four components: Vegetable Glycerine (VG), Propylene Glycol (PG), nicotine and flavour.
How do you dispose of vapes?
Disposables are recyclable, but you have to take them to dedicated WEEE locations as they contain a lithium battery. Totally Wicked and The Electronic Cigarette Company have partnered with a recycling company that specialise in dealing with disposables called Veolia. Your disposables can be brought to any of our stores, which will be kept in fire safe bins until they come for collection.
Can you take disposable vapes on a plane?
Most airlines allow vapes to be carried on planes, specifically in your hand luggage. But, you can’t legally vape in every country. If you’d like to know more, check out vaping on holiday – the ultimate guide.
Disposable Vape Troubleshooting
When your disposable starts to experience problems, it’s very annoying. After all, they’re made to be easy to use. Let’s get into the disposable vapes troubleshooting. Here’s a list of the most common issues, as well as solutions if there are any.
Auto firing
If your disposable is firing by itself, it’s know as auto-firing. This is usually caused by the auto-draw sensor being triggered by debris or an internal liquid leak. Try shaking the kit to dislodge anything blocking it, if this doesn’t work or it’s constantly firing then there’s not much you can do. The automatic cut off will stop the device from overheating, but you could place the device into a hard container just in case. If this happens to a newly opened device, contact the seller.
Burning Taste
The main culprit of a burnt taste when using a disposable is that the liquid in the tank has been used up. Coils burn when they become dry, so it means the kit has come to the end of its life. Simply replace it, making sure you recycle your old one. The only reason that this would happen to a new device is if the tank was empty to begin with. This rarely happens, but contact us if your disposable vape burns straight out of the packet.
If you’re experiencing this a lot, it might mean that you’re a heavy vaper. Switching to an open tank kit with a bar salt would be a much cheaper solution and would stop this from happening as often.
Not Vaping
Are you puffing on your disposable and getting nothing? Well there are a few things that could cause this. Firstly, your kit could have run out of battery and you didn’t notice. If this is the case it just needs to be replaced. Or, if you’re using a refillable product such as the Aspire R1 or VLTZ re:fuel, pop it on charge. If this happens to a new disposable then make sure that you’ve removed the seals (either rubber plugs or a sticker) from both the top and bottom of the device.
Blinking Light
A blinking light on a disposable means one of two things: you’ve been inhaling on it for too long or the battery is out of juice. If it’s the prior, then take shorter drags of your vape and you should be fine. If it’s the latter then you’ll need a new vape, or to recharge it if your device supports this.
