An Introduction to Vape Pods
Vape pods have swiftly found themselves at the top of vapers' wish lists. Simple to use and with endless varieties available, it is easy to see why.
But what are pod devices, and are they the right vape for you? This is everything you wanted to know about vape pods.
What is a Vape Pod?
A vape pod is a type of vape that has a battery and a ‘pod’ instead of a vape tank. A pod still does the same job as a vape tank, it holds the coil and e-liquid, but they are one sealed unit, and some have none replaceable coils, while others are pre-filled with vape juice.
They have risen in popularity because of their nature, they are usually extremely easy to use, essentially a plug-and-play vape. The original pods were designed for smokers making the switch to vaping, but the range of different pod styles has expanded rapidly, and there are some great advanced pod mods.
We stock a wide range of prefilled pods and refillable pods from some of the best selling vape brands. Such as OXVA, Aspire, Lost Mary, and Elf Bar.
What Are the Benefits of Vape Pods?
Now we know what vape pods are, we can explore the benefits of using them. Let’s break it down:
Convenience
Vape pods are built for convenience. The perfect night out vape: filling = easy, coil change = even easier, replacing the pod = easiest yet.
Easy to use
A pod rather than a tank (see convenience above) and little to no settings. However, there is an emergence of advanced pod mods, which are essentially a mod in a pod body.
Nicotine hit
If you want a killer throat hit, pop down that vape tank with huge airflow and pick up one of these bad boys. Enough said.
Leak proof
Let us caveat this by saying no e-cig is actually leakproof. Let’s tweak that to ‘leak resistant’, shall we? Vape pods are designed in such a way that escaping vape juice is minimised.
Vaping experience
Most pods are there to closely mimic the sensation of smoking. Great for new vapers.
Different Vape Pods Types – Open Tank vs Closed Tank
We have spoken loosely about ‘vape pods’ as a general term, it’s time to get granular. The pods fit into two subsections, open closed systems, each has its pros and cons and is suited to different types of vapers.
What is an open-tank vape system?
The easiest way to think of an open tank vape is this; it is a regular set-up, in the shape of a pod, with some tweaks to make it super convenient.
You can change the coils and refill the vape juice, exactly the same as a vape tank. But the coils will be push-fit and the filling will be extremely simple.
An open-tank vape is perfect for established vapers who want something super simple for their daily vape life.
What is a closed-tank vape system?
Closed tanks are smaller pods with even less maintenance. Closed tank systems are sealed so you cannot change the coil, and most are pre-filled with e-liquid already. Popular closed tank devices include the Aspire Gotek X, and Vaporesso Xros 4. Both are commended for their user friendly designs and cig a like MTL inhale.
Using closed tank pods, means that when e-liquid runs out or the coil stops working, you replace the entire pod rather than changing coils or refilling. These closed systems also usually have a very simple battery with a fixed wattage output and no settings to change. Popular prefilled devices include the SKE 600 Pro. It offers a like for like disposable design and reusable pods sold separately for a longer lasting single use experience.

Best Juice for Vape Pods
Range of Flavours
We now know all about vape pod hardware, but what about juice? Which vape juices are the best for your pod? Well, that depends on what type of pod you have.
If you have a kit with higher resistance coils and lower temperatures you will need a high VG liquid. Whereas if you are a new vaper, you will want something with a higher nicotine content or a nic salt or a bar salt. Thinner liquids are also a great choice as it wicks through your coils easier, otherwise you can get some nasty dry hits, and no one wants them.
A good starting point would be either MyVapors range or Riot Classics e-liquid. But if you want to jump straight onto bar salts we stock a range of the most popular brands such as ELFLIQ, ELUX Legend Nic Salts and VLTZ.
On the flip side, if you have a pod mod with high powers and sub-ohm coils, you want something high VG and low strength. Short fill is a great shout for this style of vaping. Take a look at Urban Chase Short Fill or Double Brew XL.
The definition of a perfect vape pod juice, is one which wicks well, tastes great, and isn’t too thick or thin. Something with a 50:50 PG:VG ratio is great, and simple flavours that are consistently good. I have just described ELFLIQ, go check it out.
Check out our range of e-liquid brands and flavours, such as fruit, soda, menthol, and tobacco flavours. We also stock a selection of nicotine strengths from 5mg to 20mg.
Who Are Vape Pod Systems For?
Vape pods were originally aimed at smokers or new vapers and this still holds firm. They are ideal for a first e-cig as they are so uncomplicated. Everything pushes or pulls, there are very few working parts and there is no ‘fiddling’ required.
While there has been an advancement in the technology of vape pods and there are still some advanced sub ohm kits out there; such as the Eleaf iStick i75. It features an impressive built in 3000mAh battery that fuels its 1-75W output and digital display screen where you can monitor battery life. It makes a great choice for advanced vapers and cloud chasers.
Open advanced vape mods are for you regular vapers out there. Whereas closed tank systems are great for smokers and new vapers thanks to their user friendly design. Popular choices include the OXVA XLIM Pro 2, Aspire Pixo, and Vaporesso XROS Pro.

How long do vape pods last?

To boost the lifespan be sure to wipe residue from the pod and the inside of the kit every other day to stop moisture damage.
How to refill a pod?
A refillable pod can be topped up in different ways and will vary from brand to brand. For example, the Aspire Gotek pods feature a side refill tab that can be accessed by removing the pod from the kit. Whereas the TECC Sono refill port is located at the top of the pod for easy access.

Pods are designed to be leakproof for a seamless and mess free vaping experience. One of the most common reason why your pod has leaked is because you have overfilled it. Proceed to gently blow through the mouthpiece a few times to remove any access and reinsert to begin vaping.
How to remove vape juice from pod?
Vape juice can be inserted and removed from a pod via its filling port. To remove liquid squeeze the air out of an e-liquid bottle and insert the tip into the pod and slowly release the air from the bottle. This should suck up the liquid and can be repeated until the tank is empty.
How do you know when to change a pod?
There are several signs that its time to switch a pod for a fresh one. For example, the liquid will discolour or you will begin to experience a burnt taste and faded flavour. As you begin to experience these issues be sure to swap out your pod asap to avoid damage to your pod kit.
