A weighty, rugged kit that feels and vapes great.
The VOOPOO ARGUS GT 2 is an amazing kit that’s perfect for DTL vapers, or MTL vapers if you swap out the tank. This kit is a worthy successor to the original ARGUS GT kit and certainly goes the distance. It’s great to see a new, non-disposable kit hitting the market. Let’s take a look!
Appearance
Before I get onto the looks of the kit, I just want to talk about the packaging. Very rarely do I see vape companies make the effort with their boxes, but with this kit VOOPOO has gone all out. The ARGUS GT II arrives in a metal tin, with a branded cardboard sleeve. The tin features the slogan “solid and compact” and they hit the nail right on the head.
Starting with the MAAT tank. One of the first things that you’ll notice is the huge, adjustable airflow. Which, is always great in a DTL device. The airflow is also controlled with a switch, rather than just twisting the bottom of the tank. The tank has a quarter turn, lift off cap that once removed reveals the filling holes. The filling holes are covered by a silicone barrier that helps prevent leakage. The coils that this tank uses are the TPP coils, which are also used in the Drag X Pro kit.
Moving onto the mod itself. The colour that I tested was ‘silver grey’ and the first thing I thought when I opened the tin was “wow, that’s shiny!”. There are other colours if you’d prefer a more subtle look, I would have preferred the dark blue kit but I get what I’m given! The ARGUS GT II is a solid and weighty mod (once you have the batteries in it). I loved the look of the device and the charge port is concealed by a sliding cover, which I really appreciated. Although, it’s best to charge removable batteries in an external charger. The shiny metal can be a fingerprint magnet, but with the embossed leatherette, it is a very comfortable device to hold.
Performance
The VOOPOO ARGUS GT 2 performs brilliantly. The huge airflow on the tank makes the Argus draw extremely smoothly. The TPP coils are fantastic and give off a lot of flavour. I vaped the device at 45 watts (which is my preferred power setting) and the flavour from the coils was perfect. The mesh coils really carry the flavour. The liquid that I chose to try with this was Riot Squad Black Edition Ultra Peach Tea and from start to finish the flavour remained constant. At 45 watts the battery lasted me about a day and a half to two days. The lock feature on the bottom of the device is a time saver. It means that you can lock the device when putting it in your pocket, not having to wait for it to turn on to vape it.
The only downside that I found with this vape was the issue that I’ve found with all VOOPOO devices that feature the GENE Chip. When left for around five minutes or longer, you have to press the fire button to ‘wake up’ the device before it’ll fire. Now considering that this was the only flaw that I found, I’d say it’s a minor issue.
Ease Of Use
The VOOPOO ARGUS GT is an extremely easy kit to use. With push-fit TPP coils, changing the coils has never been simpler. The mod features a smart mode, meaning that it’ll set the wattage to the recommended setting. The power settings also feature regular power mode and temperature control, meaning that it’s suitable for most DL vapers.
When vaping a mod with removable batteries I tend to carry around fully charged replacements. The battery door is very easy to open, meaning that changing the batteries on the go is also very easy.
Price
The VOOPOO ARGUS GT II costs £54.99 which, at least in my opinion, is great value for money. When compared to similar products such as the iStick Power 2C or the Geek Vape Aegis Legend 2, the quality feels much higher. Even down to the screws that hold the device together, the Argus 2 looks and feels like a better device.
The kit isn’t supplied with the two 18650 batteries needed to power it. I used the Golisi S30 batteries, to get the longest life out of each charge.
The VOOPOO TPP coils cost £8.99 for a pack of three and are available in 0.15 and 0.2 ohms. I trialled the device using the 0.2 ohm coils, as the 60-80 watts of the 0.15 ohm coils were a bit too high for my liking.
Target Audience
This kit is clearly aimed at DL vapers. However, as long as you don’t mind paying the extra for a new tank, this kit would work amazingly as a DTL kit. One example of a tank that would work great with this mod would be the Eleaf GTL Pod Tank.
The VOOPOO ARGUS GT 2 is rugged, well made and built to last. Meaning that it would be an ideal kit for vapers who need a more durable kit for rugged environments.
Final Verdict
Well, I think I’ve found my new device. Until now I’ve been using the Eleaf iStick Power 2 mod with an Eleaf Melo 4 tank. With the ARGUS’ rapid fire up time, button lock switch, great looks, amazing flavour and just great overall look, this device is going to be my main kit going forward. During my time testing this device I found only minor flaws, which were greatly overshadowed by all the areas where this kit shines.
