What are the biggest problems encountered by new vapers?

In this article...
Vaping is a fantastic way to quit smoking. It’s healthier and a lot cheaper, but without advice, it’s easy for new users to experience some common problems. Let’s go through some of the biggest mistakes made by new vapers, as well as the best ways to solve the issues.
Using the wrong kit

Sometimes new vapers will buy the wrong kit for their needs. This creates a huge problem, as if you have a bad experience on your first vape then you’re less likely to stick with it.
When choosing your first vape, you first need to decide what you need from an e-cig. Important things to consider include size, amount of vapour and battery capacity.
Sub-ohm devices
Sub-ohm vaping uses high power and low resistance coils to create huge clouds. This is commonly known as direct to lung (DL) and is most likely too much for new users. To begin with, these kits are meant to be used with lower strengths of nicotine because they make the liquid feel stronger. This often won’t be enough for most new vapers, as low strength nicotine would only provide enough for very light smokers. Also, DL kits are vaped differently as you draw the vapour directly into your lungs instead of into your mouth first, like a cigarette.

Using the wrong coils or e-liquid
One of the biggest mistakes by new vapers is using the wrong coils, power setting or e-liquid for their kit.
Coils
Coils all have resistances, usually written as ohm or Ω. Basically, the higher this number is then the harder it is to draw on. But each resistance of coils has a minimum and maximum wattage that it works between, which is usually written below the resistance. Using a coil below its minimum can cause leaking and above the maximum could cause it to burn and taste horrible.
Mouth to lung (MTL) coils are usually between 0.8ohm and 1.8ohm and work best with 50/50 or high PG liquids. If you use heavy VG juice with them, it can cause burning.
E-liquid
E-liquid is made up of 4 main components: Vegetable Glycerine (VG), Propylene Glycol (PG) flavourings and nicotine. Heavy VG liquids are thicker and produce more vapour. Juice that is higher in PG will be thinner and give more of a throat hit. 50/50 is an equal balance of both, and is a recommended starting point for new vapers.
Another important thing to consider is the nicotine strength, you need to choose it based on how much you used to smoke. Heavy smokers should aim around 2%, medium to smokers should try 1% and light users should try 0.6% or even 0.3%. If you’re vaping but still experience cravings, try upping your nicotine strength.
When choosing your e-liquid, throat hit is another thing to think about. If you want to feel the strength of the nicotine you’re using, like a cigarette, then you could choose a high PG liquid such as MyVapors. If you need a high nicotine strength, but don’t want any throat hit, then nic salts or bar salts might be a better fit.
Vaping like a smoker
If you inhale harder on a cigarette then you get more smoke and a harsher feeling on the back of your throat, e-cigs don’t work like that. However, if you inhale too hard on your kit then you could flood your coil, which causes leaking. When you want more vapour then turning up the power or switching to a less resistant coil is the way to go.
Not keeping your tank filled
Keeping your tank filled is very important when vaping, as if there’s no liquid then your coil will burn. As a general rule of thumb try to keep your juice level above the wicking holes of the coil. These are the gaps that the liquid soaks through to reach heating element.
