A recent study has shown that text support for vapers is the most effective way of helping them to quit smoking. It also proved the importance of flavours when trying to give up cigarettes. In this article we’ll also discuss why e-cigs are such a good stop smoking tool.
Text advice for quitters

Research led by London South Bank University (LSBU) has shown the most effective support for quitters is text messaging. Concluding that those who received help to choose a liquid flavour and got supportive texts were 55% more likely to give up in three months[1].
Also, the study found that after three months, 25% of the participants had successfully quit smoking, and an additional 13% had reduced their cigarette intake by more than half.
Another interesting finding was that less than a third of participants ‘wanted something that tasted like tobacco’. This proves how important a selection of flavours is to new vapers. In a government consultation, one of the topics was banning all but tobacco and menthol.
Vaping as a stop smoking tool

The number of people who use e-cigarettes in Great Britain has been increasing in recent years, with 4.7 million adults currently using them. What’s encouraging is that 2.7 million of these individuals have successfully quit smoking with the help of e-cigarettes. This is a significant increase from previous years and shows the positive impact that vaping can have on helping people quit smoking.
It’s important to note that some people who use e-cigarettes may still smoke cigarettes as well. However, reducing cigarette consumption can still be beneficial for your health. Many new vapers go through a transition phase where they continue to smoke alongside vaping before ultimately switching entirely to vaping[2].
As stated by the NHS, vaping is a lot safer than smoking. Also, those using an e-cigarette to quit are two thirds more likely to succeed[3].
