The APPG Responsible Vaping group has been established by the UK Government as a representative of new vaping laws within parliament.
MPs from across the political map have partnered to launch this cross-party group on responsible vaping.
The APPG (All-Party Parliamentary Group) will be a spokesperson on issues surrounding vaping within parliament. With a direct focus on regulation and responsibility within the sector.
The group’s first ceremony saw the election of Chair Gareth Johnson, MP for Dartford. Mary Glindon as Vice Chair, MP for North Tyneside. Following the chair elections, the officers elected were Mark Logan, Bolton NE, and Mark Eastwood, MP for Dewsbury.
The formation of the new group is supported by the Independent British Vape Trade Association (IBVTA). Chaired by our CEO, Marcus Saxton.
The APPG will act as a representative of the government’s new measures. Including the new laws surrounding vape tax, disposable ban, and restrictions included in the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.
Simultaneously, the group aims to understand and spotlight best practices when supporting adults to quit smoking. As well as tackle underage access, the illicit vape trade, and the protection of the environment.
The UK is one of the great leaders in recognising the great benefits of switching from smoking to vaping.
The IBVTA’s research shows that 46% of smokers and 37% of ex-smokers have tried or used a vaping device to help them quit smoking.
Studies supported by the Government state that vaping is a 95% safer alternative.
IBVTA’s comment on APPG Responsible Vaping Group:
We are delighted to announce that Parliamentarians from across the political spectrum including a former health secretary have come together to launch the cross-party group on vaping.
The APPG (All-Party Parliamentary Group) for Responsible Vaping, supported by the IBVTA, will provide a voice on vaping issues within Parliament and with a clear focus on proportionate regulation and responsibility within the sector.
Chair of the APPG, Gareth Johnson MP said:
“Vaping has the potential to save so many more lives whilst if half of every current smoke quit, it would save the NHS £500 million per year. But it is critical as this weight of legislation is designed and moves forward onto the statue book, that there is a strong voice on vaping in parliament.
I would therefore urge ministers to constructively engage with the APPG over the coming months to ensure that the regime we end up with is fair and balanced, safeguards children and the environment, without risking the many benefits that vaping can bring.”
Our Thoughts on the Responsible Vape Group
At the Electronic Cigarette Company, we strongly support the launch of the APPG for Responsible vaping. At TECC we hope to see an increased crackdown on the circulation of prohibited products.
