How to give up for good!
In this article...

Vaping is a fantastic nicotine replacement tool and a much safer alternative to combustible cigarettes. Whilst most vapers are happy to continue, some use it as a tool to stop smoking. So, perhaps you’ve quit smoking successfully and are now wondering how to quit vaping. Since I’m certified with the The National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT), let’s go through some handy tips to cut out nicotine completely.
Think About Your Reasons for Quitting.
Before you try to quit your vape, it’s important to think about why you want to stop. Some of these reasons include:
- Vaping is affecting your health.
- Vaping is affecting your relationship with friends & family.
- You’re spending too much money on e-cigarettes.
As with quitting anything, you need to be in the right frame of mind before you start your quit attempt. If you don’t actively want to give up, then your journey is going to he a hard one. A key method to prepare yourself is to assess when you vape. If you identify your vaping triggers, then it becomes a lot easier to avoid them.
How to Quit Vaping – Give Up Smoking

If you’re a dual user then the most important step is to completely give up cigarettes and make the switch to only vaping.
There are things you can do to help with this, one of the easiest is to increase your nicotine levels. By upping the strength of your e-liquid, you can compensate for the cigarettes that you’ll no longer be smoking. If this is a problem because higher strengths hurt your throat, consider switching to a nic salt.
Cut Down Your Nicotine Level.
By cutting down your nicotine level, you’re making the first steps to giving up all together. Even if you’re not quitting vaping completely, this can still be a good idea.
When I started working for Totally Wicked I began vaping a lot more. Mainly because I was in an environment where I could vape constantly. I had already cut down on my own from 10mg to 6mg but I felt I had to take the next step. I found it really hard to drop straight down to a 3mg so I came up with a very handy in between. Basically I used a 20ml bottle and used it to mix a bottle of 6mg and 3mg together to make a 4.5mg. After vaping that for a few weeks it was much easier to drop down to 3mg completely.
That’s where I stopped. I’m happy vaping this strength and have no plans to quit anytime soon. But using this same technique, I’ve helped a fair few customers drop to 0% and some to quit completely.
The NCSCT advise that there should be at least a 2 week gap between lowering your nicotine strengths.
How to Quit Vaping – The Next Step.
So you’ve dropped all the way down to 0mg, now what? Well you need to stop vaping, but stopping the physical act of vaping can be a struggle for some. One thing you can do is to replace the act with something else. Chew gum, get a fidget spinner or take up a new hobby. Distracting yourself is probably the best way to stop. Another method is to slowly cut down the amount you vape. By limiting your vaping to certain times during the day you can slowly reduce this and then stop all together.
Supporting Your Quit Attempt With NRTs.
While vaping is one of the most affective methods of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), it isn’t the only one. Tools such as patches, lozenges, inhalers and gum can be used to give you an alternative supply of nicotine. There’s also nicotine pouches such as Elf Bar Tacja. These can also be used when you’re trying to quit vaping. If you’re limiting your vaping to certain times but find yourself craving a vape, try another tool such as lozenges to kill your cravings.
How to Quit Vaping – Quitting Cold Turkey.
Abstinence is the route chosen by only the strongest of will. Giving up vaping cold turkey, for some, is incredibly hard and should only be attempted if you know you can. Support when using this method is probably the most important thing to take into account. Help from your friends, family and even professionals is key.
Also, the use of other NRTs greatly helps kill the cravings experienced when cutting out nicotine suddenly.
