Some apply these modestly, while others have significantly higher rates that have massively impacted retail prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For UK Vapers, understanding how other countries have implemented vape taxation provides valuable context. It also offers insight into what may happen to prices, consumer behaviour and the wider industry once the VPD comes into force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, we&#8217;ll compare the UK&#8217;s new vape duty with Ireland and other EU countries. Tax rates, scope and enforcement vary considerably from country to country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK&#8217;s VPD is part of that wider trend, rather than an isolated policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The UK&#8217;s Approach: A Flat-Rate Duty Based On Liquid Volume<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK chose one of the simplest tax models currently used in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From 1st October 2026, Vaping Products Duty will apply a flat rate of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00a32.20  per 10ml of vape liquid<\/strong> <strong>(22p per ml)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike early proposals, the tax does not vary based on nicotine strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, vape juice is taxed at the same rate, whether it contains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#c1d3c4\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>0mg nicotine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5mg nicotine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10mg nicotine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20mg nicotine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Government claims this approach is easier for manufacturers, importers and retailers to administer, while reducing complexity in the supply chain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside this, the UK is also introducing Vaping Duty Stamps. Just recently, it was revealed that the tax yielded just \u20ac1.3 million in its first two months.
