The average life expectancy of an e-cig is around 6-12 months. But with proper care and attention you vapes can last for a lot longer. In this vape maintenance 101 we’re going to be going through charging, cleaning and maintaining your device to get the most out of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charging your kit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Battery safety is very important. Apart from making sure your device works as it should, improper charging can actually damage your battery and cause your kit to misbehave. The most common fault caused by improper charging is a dramatic loss of battery life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a few things to consider when charging your e-cig, let’s go through them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Using the correct charger & cable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Always make sure that you’re using an outlet that’s the right power for your kit. If it’s too powerful, it can damage the battery which affects its overall lifespan. Eventually your kit will be so damaged that it won’t even turn on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For kits that use micro-USB, you’re going to need a 1A charger. Plugs like the TECC 1.0A USB wall adaptor<\/a> are perfect choices for keeping your e-cig topped up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devices that use USB-C can use 2.0A outlets, which charges them faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s always best to avoid phone plugs and games consoles to charge your e-cig, as nowadays they’re likely 3.0A or higher. This will damage your battery and you’ll soon see your kit misbehaving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be careful with the charge port<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is especially true with kits that use micro-USB, but can happen to any device. If you’re too rough when inserting or removing the cable, then you can damage the charge port. This means that, if your kit has an internal battery, that your e-cig is done for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charge removable batteries with an external charger<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If your device has removable batteries, it’s always best to top them up with an external charger like the Golisi S2. This helps to make sure that they’re powered equally and helps to maximise their lifespan. Plus, it’s unlikely that you’ll damage the charge port if you’re not using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cleaning your vape<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, your kit can pick up dirt and fingerprints from use. If you’re wiping down your e-cig it’s best to use a dry cloth or tissue. If you need to wet it, then only do so a little. After all, water and electronics don’t mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alcohol wipes are fantastic for cleaning vapes with and really lift off any e-liquid lingering on your kit. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Wipe the contacts regularly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This mainly applies to pod kits, but can be done with traditional 510 tanks as well. Wiping the contacts that connect the coil to the battery is a great habit to get into. Fluid build up under the coil can lead to your device auto-firing or refusing to work as it should. This is one of the first things that you should check if your kit has problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rinse out the tank<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you have a more traditional tank, you can often deconstruct it. This allows you to rinse it under a tap, which is the best way to clean it. Just make sure that you dry it properly afterwards. Also, be careful when putting it back together that you don’t damage any of the seals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting the most from your coils<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Changing your coil is another important part of vape maintenance. If they’re too old then they can cause issues such as a change to taste or leaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want the best possible flavour from your kit then they should be changed regularly. You should also make sure that you use liquid that’s right for your coil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MTL (1.8ohm – 1.0ohm):<\/strong> These work best with 50\/50 liquids or ones that are higher in PG.
RDL (0.8ohm – 0.6ohm):<\/strong> RDL coils can still be used with 50\/50 and high PG, but you can also use slightly thicker VG liquids like 40\/60.
DL (0.4ohm – 0.15ohm):<\/strong> DL coils are perfect for heavy VG liquids, as they’re great for making clouds. They also work with 50\/50, but you might use it up slightly faster.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Change your coil often<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Your coil, or pod, should be changed roughly every 2 weeks. They can last longer or shorter than this depending on things such as: vaping style, what liquid you’re using, the power settings of your kit or if they’re fired for too long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoid liquids with certain additives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

E-liquid that contains high amounts of flavour, sweeteners or colourings can impact the life of your coil. To get the maximum lifespan, try using juices that are a higher quality and only have VG, PG, flavour and nicotine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use the right wattage <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you run a coil below the minimum recommended wattage then it can cause leaking. But, if your settings are too high then it may burn it out quicker than intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
