why does my vape get hot

Have you been busy vaping away and then realised your vape kit is getting hot? If so then don’t panic, here are the reasons why.

Should I be Worried?

With any electronic device it is natural to be concerned when it starts to get hot leading you to believe there is a fault with it or it may be unsafe to use. Rest assured this is normal when using an e-cigarette.

The most common reason why your vape kit will be hot is down to the coil. This component of the device is designed to heat up to create the vapour itself, reaching temperatures of around 300°C. While also producing vapour, this heat will unsurprisingly transfer to the rest of the device which could cause confusion to where the source of the heat is coming from.

To locate the heat source feel around the device and you should notice it will be much warmer at the point where the tank and battery meets. This is where the coil is located. If the hottest part of the device is further down the battery this could indicate an issue with the battery itself.

How to cool down my vape

For many vapers a warmer vape can be unpleasant so here’s some simple ways to cool down your vape.

Unsurprisingly when vaping at a higher wattage the temperature of the device will increase. Again, this is completely normal and doesn’t mean there is a fault with the e-cig. The simple way to prevent this would be to try vaping at a lower wattage. This also means the coil you are using should be changed to one that supports a lower wattage.

The coil will display on the bottom or side, the power range its supports. Alternatively devices that feature a SMART mode will automatically adjust to the optimum wattage. For example, the Joyetech TRALUS utilises this feature and comes with a 1.2ohm EZ coil that vapes between 7-13 watts, ideal if you are looking for a device that won’t get too hot.

Another way of managing the temperature of your vape is the airflow. If you are already vaping at a high wattage with a closed off airflow this will produce a hotter vape.

By opening up the airflow cold air can pass through making the vape much cooler. Vapers tend to have different preferences on how warm they want their vape so most devices offer adjustable airflow allowing you to customise how open or closed it is.

Another great example is the VOOPOO PnP pod tank. This is great as it can be used on a wide range of mods thanks to its 510 base, which features a large and easily adjustable airflow. The PnP coils also come in a wide range of resistances so can cater to both DL and MTL vapers.
