A look at what e-liquid ratios mean.

50/50 vape juice is a balance of 50% Vegetable Glycerine and 50% Propylene Glycol. It’s a versatile ratio that can be used in pretty much any e-cigarette. But what does this mean? Well, let’s take a look at what e-liquid is made from.
What’s in vape juice?

Vape juice is made from four main components: vegetable glycerine (VG), propylene glycol (PG), nicotine and flavouring. Sometimes, the VG is replaced with Aqueous Glycerine (AG), which makes the liquid thinner and contains distilled water. Also, sweeteners or colouring may be added.
Vegetable Glycerine – VG is what makes the vapour that you exhale. So, if the juice is high in Vegetable Glycerine, it’ll create bigger clouds.
Aqueous Glycerine – AG is vegetable glycerine that has been thinned with distilled water. This helps thicker liquids soak into the coil better.
Propylene Glycol – PG is what provides the throat hit when combined with the nicotine. It also carries the flavour.
Nicotine – This is the reason that most people vape. Freebase liquids give a throat hit based on the strength chosen. Nic salts have added natural acids that reduce or remove the throat hit.
Flavour – Exactly what it says on the tin. Flavoured vape juice is really important for those switching from cigarettes. There are hundreds available with fruity, mint or tobacco tastes.
Other additives – Sometimes e-liquid can contain other additives such as sweeteners or colouring. It’s worth noting that things like caffeine and taurine can’t be added to UK legal vape juice as stated in the TRPR laws.
What are vape juice ratios?
The ratio of a liquid is how much PG and VG/AG there is. It’s usually written as a percentage and is PG:VG.
High PG – These liquids are usually 60/40 and are thinner. This means that they can only be used in low power kits and can cause leaking in sub-ohm coils. They’re great for new vapers looking to mimic the throat hit from smoking. Also, they give off less vapour than 50/50 or high VG juices.
50/50 – This vape juice provides an equal balance of throat hit and vapour production. 50/50 vape juice can be used in most vape kits so is suitable for everyone. You can get this ratio in freebase and nic salt.
High VG/AG – Liquids that have a heavier VG or AG content are thicker liquids that are designed to be used in high powered, sub-ohm kits. They focus on creating large amounts of vapour and are often the go-to choice of cloud chasers.
