How to work out how many puffs are in your vape.
The term ‘Puffs’ has become popular since the rise of disposables, but what does it mean? Well it’s hard to pin down exactly what a puff is. With all of the ambiguity you might be wondering “how many puffs are in my vape?”. Well let’s take a look at what things influence your draw and how to work out how many you can get from one pod/tank/disposable.
What determines a puff?
A ‘puff’ refers to taking a draw of your e-cigarette. But when using puffs as a standardised term for how long a vape will last is wildly inaccurate. There are numerous factors that affect how many draws you’ll actually get out of a vape.
Vaping Style – Mouth to lung, restricted direct lung, direct to lung, every vaper draws on their device differently. Naturally, MTL vapers will get the most number of puffs from their tank and DL users will get the least.
Coil Resistance – Coil resistance weighs heavily on the amount of e-liquid used. With lower resistance coils using more liquid than higher ones.
Power Setting – If you’re using a traditional e-cigarette rather than a disposable, you’re probably going to be able to change the power settings. The more power that is provided to the coil, the more e-liquid you’ll use.
Liquid Ratio – This one kind of links with coils resistance. If you’re using a thinner liquid in a more powerful device then you’re going to go through your liquid faster. So, if you use 50/50 in a DL kit at 50W then you’re going to use it quicker than someone using a low powered device.
Usage – It goes without saying that if you use your device a lot, you’re going to go through you liquid faster. But, if you hardly touch your kit then you’re going to get a lot longer. This one doesn’t really influence the total number of puffs but it’ll impact how long your liquid will last you.
So, How Many Puffs Are In Your Vape?
Let’s talk generally for a second, with an example of a coil that’s 1.0ohm and liquid that’s 50/50. Each 1ml of liquid will provide around 300 standard puffs.
Disposables – Disposable vapes usually contain 2ml of e-liquid so you’re going to get around 600 puffs from one.
10ml 50/50 – With a 10ml bottle you’re going to get around 3000 puffs. This is a great money saving opportunity if you’re a disposable vaper, as you can use bar salts.
50ml Shortfill – Now this is where it starts to get a bit theoretical. On paper, using this example, you’re going to be getting 18,000 puffs from a 50ml shortfill with a nic shot. But, since shortfill is usually high VG and is used in high powered devices then it’s going to be less. Using a device at 45W would get you around 2000 puffs.
Use Your Puff Counter
If your device has a screen, then it’s probably going to have a puff counter. If you’re that curious as to how many puffs you’re getting then the next time you fill your tank, reset your puff counter. That way you can check when you next come to refill your tank how many puffs 2ml lasts you. Times this by 5 and you’ve got how many puff you get out of a 10ml bottle.
