Could bar salts help move vapers over from bar salts to an open tank system?
The purpose of bar salts is to provide the same strength and intensity of flavour as disposable devices. With the environmental impacts of these single use devices becoming more of a focus, bar salts provide a necessary replacement. Let’s take a deeper dive into why these newer forms of nic salt can replace disposables.
What Is Nic Salt?
Nic salt is a form of e-liquid that provides a smoother vaping experience. An alkali strips nicotine from the tobacco plant during extraction. This is what gives freebase nicotine its hit. With nic salts, an acid is introduced to balance the pH. Also, this eliminates or reduces the feeling on the back of your throat.
Nic salts grew in popularity as they allow vapers to use higher levels of nicotine, without it hurting their throat or causing coughing. Lower power devices are best for salts, and they’re suitable for new vapers who previously smoked a high number of cigarettes.
What Are Bar Salts?
Bar salts are a new form of nic salt liquid. They contain more flavour concentrate in an effort to provide a disposable-like experience from an open tank system. There are two key advantages to choosing bar salts in favour of disposables.
Cost Saving
Due to the 10ml size, the bottles contain as much liquid as 5 disposables each, and are often cheaper than a single use device. This is a huge saving, especially for vapers who use a device per day. Let’s take a look at an example.
If you bought the Joyetech Widewick and enough VLTZ e-liquid to last 30 days it would cost £34.98 for the first month. That includes the device, 6 bottles of liquid and a spare pack of disposable pods. Every month after that would only cost £24.98, which includes 6 bottles and a pack of pods. Compare this to a months worth of Elf Bar 600, which would cost £114 (30 Elf Bars with Multi Buy pricing), it saves you a whopping £89.02 PER MONTH! Also, this saving only comes at the expense of charging the device and filling the pod. But, here’s a fun fact: Filling an open tank system is actually faster than opening a disposable. Environmental Impact
As I talked about in detail in my ‘Vaping and the Environment‘ article, disposable vapes can be extremely harmful to local ecosystems. People throw away approximately 1.3 million disposables every week, contaminating the environment with plastics and heavy metals. ELFLIQ. E-liquid made by Elf Bar. Available in 0.5%, 1.0% & 2.0%
MARYLIQ. Another Elf Bar brand with 25 flavours and a 1.0% and 2.0% strength.
VLTZ E-liquid. A range of fantastically extreme flavours. Available in 0%, 1.0% and 1.6%.
Compatible Devices
Bar salts aren’t made for every device. For higher powered kits, the flavours can be very intense. The best choice for this liquid is lower power pod kits. Here’s a suggestion of some kits that work great with bar salt.
VLTZ re:fuel. This kit changes it up the formula as it’s still a disposable. But, it can take around 2 bottles before needing to be recycled. Plus, you get a free bottle of VLTZ e-liquid.
Joyetech WideWick. This device has a reasonable 800mAh battery and uses disposable pods.
Joyetech EVIO C. The EVIO C is more of a traditional device as you change the coil within the pod. It has a 900mAh battery and great performance.
