A closer look at bar salts and their role in the future of disposable vaping.
Disposable vapes are incredibly popular, mainly due to their ease of use but also the intensity of flavours. This can’t be found in traditional e-liquids, or can it? Bar salts are a new type of liquid with the purpose of matching the intense tastes found in disposables. But, why are they so popular? And could they de-throne single use devices? Let’s take a look and see if bar salt could be the future of vaping.
Our Thoughts on Bar Salts
At TECC.co.uk, we think bar salts are fantastic. Not only do they save vapers money, but they bring disposable-like flavours to a much larger audience. Due to the higher levels of flavour concentrate that’s found in these liquids, they successfully mimic single use devices. Also, because they’re nic salt, they are incredibly smooth even though they are often the same 2.0% strength.
What are Bar Salts?
Bar salts are a new variation of nic salts. They often contain around double the amount of flavouring as regular liquid, which helps to replicate the experience of using a disposable device. They are available in 10ml bottles and share similar strengths found in both single use devices and nic salt ranges. Popular brands including Vampire Vape, Riot Bar, Bar Juice and Nasty Juice have all tried their hands at making bar salt. But, even the big disposable brands have released liquids in a 10ml format including: VLTZ e-liquid, MaryLiq and ELUX Legend Nic Salts.
How Popular Are They?
Bar salts are quickly growing in popularity, considering how long they’ve existed, although not quite as big as disposables yet. Using Elf Bar as an example, its bar salt equivalent ELFLIQ is grabbing 22% share of the Elf Bar 600s popularity. But if you think purely about volume of liquid, since there’s 5 Elf Bar’s worth of liquid per bottle, ELFLIQ is equivalent to more!
Compared to other 10ml ranges the uptake is huge. A lot of vapers converted to disposables due to their astounding flavour and convenience. With the appearance of bar salt, this is set to change.
Why Would Vapers Switch to Bar Salts?
The main reason for vapers to make the switch is cost, the saving bar salts present is drastic. Most disposables RRP at around £5, even with multi-buys they only drop as low as £3.80 each. Whereas each 10ml bottle of liquid only costs £3.99 and is the equivalent of 5 disposables. So at full price you’re only paying an additional 19p for 4 additional disposables worth of liquid. But, you can get some bar salt for around £2.50 each with multi-buys.
Disposables | Bar Salts | |
Weekly Cost Without Multi-buy | £34.93 | £7.98 |
Weekly Cost With Multi-buy | £26.60 | £10 |
Another benefit is the reduced environmental impact. Disposable vapes are dreadful for the environment, as each device contains a lithium battery that must be discarded after use. If these batteries are not properly disposed of they can leak harmful chemicals into ecosystems. When you use bar salts with a pod system, for example, you’re only getting rid of an empty bottle and the pod when the coil has burnt.
Predictions for the Future
We don’t have a crystal ball at TECC.co.uk, despite wishing we did sometimes. But what we’d like to happen is for bar salts to continue to grow in popularity and de-throne disposables.
With talks of Scotland possibly banning them, that change may happen sooner than everyone expects. The main issue with single use devices is the impact on the environment. This is heavily reduced when using an open tank system combined with bar salt. But if a ban is enforced in England then disposable vapers will still have an option and that is hugely thanks to this new liquid variation. Also, with such a focus by brands on pod kits and more bar salts arriving each week, there’s no way that disposables can maintain such a grip on the wider vaping industry.
We predict that bar salts will continue to grow in popularity with new ranges being released and existing ranges expanding.
