Tobacco Products Directive implementation plans out for consultation
The Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) consultation has been released, inviting all stakeholders to comment upon the proposed measures of implementation. The Article in the directive that relates specifically to e-cigarettes is Article 20.
The consultation states in paragraph 1.4: “there are areas of the revised directive that are yet to be determined by the EU. This further detail will be set out in Implementing Acts and Delegated Acts which are further pieces of legislation… We would encourage interested parties to engage with the European Stakeholder consultation to ensure any proposals best reflect the views.”
Depending upon how cynical you may feel regarding the TPD, this is either a good thing that they are inviting consultation, or it is a complete sham. One prominent e-cigarette advocate has pointed this out on his blog, where he states his belief that this is a public sector consultation, rather than a public consultation and has been designed specifically for the tobacco control sector, he does though urge everyone to respond.
It is important for vapers to engage and respond, as all the responses will have to be noted and read, and the government then has to publish the results of the consultation.
The consultation period ends on the 3rd of September 2015, do read it, do engage, because the future of vaping rests in all our hands, not just a few vocal active advocates.
