Most vapers relish the opportunity to use their electronic cigarettes in humble places such as the supermarket or in the pub, but Hollywood A-Lister Sean Penn was this week revelling in the ability to enjoy an e cig amongst World leaders at the Clinton Global Initiative Conference.
Philanthropist Penn joined guests of the conference to spread the message of the plight still suffered in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake. The actor is the founder and CEO of J/P Haitian Relief Organisation, a group which endeavours to help secure relief for the affected communities and raise funds to build the country.
Penn addressed an audience alongside Haiti’s Ambassador-at-Large Danielle Saint-Lot as well as Digicel Chairman Denis O’Brien and Kathleen Matthews of Marriott. Suited and booted, he reached for his trusted electronic cigarette and vaped away in front of the charitable crowd. Like a professor with a laser pointer, the completely at-ease Penn continued to gesticulate with his e cig to further stress his impassioned pleas.
The initiative which was started by ex-President of the United States Bill Clinton provides a platform for political and business leaders to discuss humanitarian projects. The conference, held this week, concentrated heavily on seeking relief solutions for Haiti.
Since the earthquake three years ago, e cig-lover Penn has dedicated his life to helping the country rebuild calling it his life’s work. He has been pictured heavily completing manual labour in the region. Working around building equipment and flammable materials can make smoking traditional cigarettes a safety hazard due to the naked flame, something that the actor no longer has to worry about. Despite this commitment the effervescent Penn has a new film premiering in New York this week – The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – and two films scheduled for release next year.
Penn joins a growing list of Hollywood A-Listers passionate about electronic cigarettes. Following the success of the Facebook film, the sometime-director Penn may consider creating a film about another 21st century sensation: the e cig.
